This article will help you understand the work flow of interior designing project.

Designing is a field which may attract you to perceive it as a glamorous work.Surely it is..,

But what goes behind the scene is what this article will help you understand.

Design with Ease and follow the project line-level.

Design phase | Execution phase

TASK BEFORE THE DESIGN PHASE --

Every project comes with planning process which starts from having a client at first :D

Doing a SITE SURVEY with a help of site surveyor or you personally going for taking the site measurements.

(Hack : you may ask the client or the architect/builder-agent about the floor-plan layout.)

DESIGN PHASE --

  • Start making a Design concept / mood board

  • Space planning

  • All services drawings i.e)

  1. False ceiling layout

  2. Electrical layout (Switch board,lighting,CCTV,sprinkler)

  3. Civil layout (Demolition and construction)

  4. Plumbing layout

  5. Flooring layout

  6. HVAC (core-cut,ref-net,brazing,bends,airflow etc)

  • Detailed working drawings (for factory made products)

  • Elevations

  • 3-Dimension views

After collective set of design drawings we may have a discussion with client for their final approval.

Between all of the above work also comes budgeting, material selection, sourcing, alternate changes etc.

A whole lot of churning is required to get your Design approved by your client.

Next task will be arranging a set of contractors and agencies to carry out this design in given time frame and smooth workflow.

As there may be many variable in getting the work done, sometime it may be done simultaneously, sometime individual or we need to rearrange the agency according to the situation.

(Hack : Keeping proper update to all the contractors and agencies that is involved to understand the time constraint of the project, this may be crystal-clear enough for them to get suited for their job process)

EXECUTION PHASE --

The agency or the contractor work will be arranged according to the priority of work which is generally done in a project that has started from the scratch.

  • Civil (For demolition or new construction if any, new flooring etc)

  • Waterproofing (it is sometime done simultaneously as waterproofing treatment need to be done before the flooring is laid)

  • Plumbing

  • Electrical

(All of the above contractor/agencies work goes hand in hand throughout the execution process)

and once the basic shell is ready ,we introduce HVAC and Electrical dept. to work simultaneously for conduit work and HVAC for VRV/VRF system.

  • HVAC Dept.

  • False ceiling

(False ceiling agency and electrical agency works simultaneously,as their work demands the presence of both)

  • Marble polish

  • Carpentry

  • Painting and polish

Few Other required agencies may be useful for the functioning of a execution process, which are as follow:

  1. Fabricators

  2. Floor-guard Supply vendors

  3. Debris dept.

  4. Deep cleaning dept.

  5. Tarpaulin dept. (monsoon essential)

Timely completion of work is of utmost importance.

Size of the project must not be a compromising excuse.

Once the majority of work as an designer is done. Then its your time to perform as a decorator/Stylist.
